1. What is the Pacific Ocean Short Film Festival?

The Pacific Ocean Short Film Festival is an annual event celebrating short films that highlight the rich cultures, stories, and voices of the Pacific Islands. Our festival showcases a diverse range of short films under 10 minutes including fiction, documentary, animation, and music videos.

 

2. Who can submit a film to the festival?

Filmmakers of Pacific Island heritage, or those with a lead role in the production (such as director, producer, cinematographer, or writer) from the Pacific Islands, are eligible to submit their films. The films must focus on stories or themes relevant to the Pacific Islands and their cultures.

3. What are the submission requirements?

  • Films must be 10 minutes or shorter (5 minutes or shorter for music videos).

  • Films must not have been completed before January 2022.

  • Submissions must be made through the FilmFreeway platform.

4. When is the submission deadline?

The submission's Final Deadline is December 6, 2024. Make sure to submit your film before this date to be considered for the festival.

5. Can I submit a film that has been screened elsewhere?

Yes, there are no restrictions on the film’s premiere status. Films that have been screened or released elsewhere are eligible.

6. What is the selection process?

Our selection process involves an initial review, pre-selection by a team of film professionals, and final selection by a diverse panel of judges. Films are evaluated based on creativity, storytelling, technical quality, relevance to Pacific themes, emotional impact, and cultural sensitivity.

7. When will I be notified if my film is selected?

Notifications for selected and non-selected films will be made on January 10th 2025. Detailed information about the festival schedule and additional requirements will be provided to filmmakers of selected films at that time.

8. Are there any screening fees for selected films?

No, there are no additional screening fees for films that are selected to be part of the festival.

9. How long does the festival last?

The Pacific Ocean Short Film Festival is a 2-night event designed to provide an engaging and memorable experience for both filmmakers and audiences.

10. What awards are given at the festival?

The festival honors outstanding achievements in filmmaking with various awards, including:
